Welcome from the Presidents

Since its founding in 2002, the Baker Institute Student Forum (BISF) has served as a vital link between the Baker Institute for Public Policy and the Rice student body. Our mission is to serve as a campus hub where students can explore and engage with the policy issues of today.

Throughout the year, BISF hosts a variety of formal and informal events to spark meaningful policy discussions on campus, bringing together Rice students, policy experts, and policymakers. We strive to provide opportunities for students to deepen their understanding of public policy, empowering them to define their own opinions and challenging them to consider others. By facilitating workshops and career panels focused on public policy, we aim to enhance the academic and professional journeys of Rice students. In addition, through the Rice Journal of Public Policy and our annual policy competition, BISF provides opportunities for Rice students to contribute their voices to the policy debates shaping the world.

BISF draws its strength from the diversity and curiosity of the Rice student body. Gathered here in Houston, Texas from the US and abroad, our members share a deep commitment to understanding and engaging with the policies that shape our future.

From the rapid rise of Artificial Intelligence and the growing impacts of climate change, the policy issues that we face today are complex and constantly evolving. Staying informed on policy-related developments and openly engaging with diverse perspectives has never been more important.

We invite you to join us as we navigate the policy issues of our time.

Warmly,

Ava McCormick, Bryson Jun, and Shraddha Bhatia
Presidents of the Baker Institute Student Forum

It takes a lot of work to make these opportunities available for the campus. We are always looking for policy-minded students to help program events, develop research and reach out to the community. Join one of our committees and make the most of your Rice experience.
